Today, Thursday 24 September 2026, UNRWA schools across Lebanon saw a protest action, with teachers holding a sit-in during the final two lessons of the school day. These photos are from Ain Al-Hilweh refugee camp.
The demands concern:
• A 20% deduction from teachers’ salaries.
• Transfers that the teachers’ union describes as sudden and unfair.
• The closure of Rafah School in Tripoli.
• Overcrowding and a shortage of trainers at the Siblin Training Centre.
But there is a bigger issue: we, Palestinian refugees, continue to be marginalised and neglected.
Yet some British people come to lecture us about the "two-state solution" as if it were a ready-made answer that can simply be imposed on us, while this proposal does not address the reality of Palestinian refugees, does not address the right of return, and does not end decades of displacement and exile.
